Give or take event in Cromford 28th January
One of the best ways we can have a positive impact on the environment is keeping usable items out of landfill, but the challenge is often finding the person who wants the things that you no longer need.
Celebrating Cromford will be holding a Give or Take event on 28 January to give local residents a chance to bring along good condition items and take away something that someone else has brought.
Details:
- Saturday 28 January
- Cromford Methodist Church Hall
- 1pm to 5pm
- Drop off your items from 12pm
- Event starts at 1pm
- Refreshments available
- Everyone welcome - you don't have to give to take
Only items that are in good condition will be accepted as the aim is to pass on usable items.

Recycling just got a lot easier in the Matlock area with the opening of Derbyshire County Council’s new household waste recycling centre on Harrison Way, Northwood, Darley Dale.
Transition Matlock members and their children were in attendance for the opening ceremony of this fantastic new facility on 11th August. A children’s “Junk to Funk” workshop was held, giving kids a chance to reuse waste materials to create guitars and drums, then use their creations to stage a concert for guests.
A range of household items can be taken to the Northwood Recycling Centre for free, including:
• Electrical items (large and small) • Wood (any kind of wood even if treated, as it goes for chipboard manufacture) • Chipboard • Green garden waste such as cuttings and clippings • Clothes, textiles, bed linen, curtains etc • Paper and cardboard • Glass, cans, metals and plastic bottles (any plastic bottle e.g. shampoo, bleach, milk, etc) • Oil (automotive and cooking) • Tyres (maximum of four from a domestic vehicle) • Soil or rubble (maximum of two 25kg sacks) • Car and household batteries • Furniture • Low energy light bulbs and fluorescent tubes • Small amounts of hazardous household such as fertilisers, pesticides and up to two sheets of asbestos (double wrapped in plastic) • Cartons • General household waste that cannot be recycled
The centre is open seven days a week from 8.30am until 6pm – except on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Almost the only thing that cannot be recycled at Northwood is kitchen waste such as fruit and vegetable peelings, teabags and eggshells, and plastics that are not bottles.

An EcoTeam is a group of householders who get together 5-6 times over 6 months to follow a step-by-step process of manageable actions on rubbish and shopping, household energy, water, and travel. Anyone can form an EcoTeam - neighbours, friends, work colleagues or community groups.
